How to disable or enable MetaMask Extension auto-updates

MetaMask Extension is automatically updated when we release updates--if that's what you want, and if that's what you set your browser to do.

While most browsers encourage users to get updates automatically (as do we), users can enable or disable auto-updates on some browsers. Here’s how:

Chrome-based browsers (Chrome, Brave)

Google Chrome and similar browsers, such as Brave, don’t (explicitly) support users to disable extension auto-updates. Some users explore some workarounds here, but it’s rather intricate for laypersons. We would not encourage our users to explore it.

FireFox

  1. In the search bar, type: 'about:addons'
  2. Click on the MetaMask extension tile
  3. Scroll down to the 'Allow automatic updates' field and adjust according to your preference.
